At Prime Minister’s Questions on the 21st of October, Ellie put the issue directly to the Prime Minister, challenging him on why the Government was approving further fossil fuel extraction despite the growing climate emergency. She highlighted that Jackdaw is not expected to bring down energy bills and questioned the limited number of jobs the project would create, asking whether the Government had been swayed by the influence of the oil and gas industry.

Ellie also pointed to growing warnings from the UN about the world exceeding safe climate limits, with the consequences already being felt through increasingly severe heatwaves, wildfires and flooding. She argued that approving new fossil fuel production is completely at odds with the urgent action needed to tackle climate breakdown.

Ellie will continue to hold the Government to account on its climate commitments and push for investment in renewable energy, rather than further reliance on fossil fuels, to secure a safer and more sustainable future for generations to come.
