Ellie urged the government to explore fitting AI equipped cameras on to bin lorries to speed up identification and repair potholes. She argued that since bin lorries travel the every road on a weekly basis, they are ideally placed to identify new road defects.
The AI technology is capable of identifying, mapping and automatically logging potholes for local authorities. Highlighting the success of similar schemes in Australia, she called on the Department for Transport to work with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to provide councils with the funding and coordination needed to roll out the technology nationwide.
