Committees
Much of the work of the House of Commons takes place in committees, with each committee made up of around 10 to 50 members. These committees examine issues in detail, from government policy and proposed new laws, to wider topics like the economy.
Ellie serves on the Environmental Audit Committee. The stated remit of this committee is to consider the extent to which the policies and programmes of government departments and non-departmental public bodies contribute to environmental protection and sustainable development, and to audit their performance against sustainable development and environmental protection targets. Unlike most select committees, the Environmental Audit Committee’s remit cuts across government rather than focuses on the work of a particular department. This is a current and ongoing membership.
Ellie has also served on Bill Committees. For an explanation of what a Bill is, please use the link to access Ellie’s explainer video on What is a Bill.
A Bill Committee is a committee set up by the House of Commons to examine the details of a particular Bill. Bill Committes are where MPs dig in to every line of a Bill, table amendments and try to improve it. In 2025, Ellie has served on 2 Bill Committees.
