All Party Parliamentary Groups

An All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) consists of Members of both Houses who join together to pursue a particular topic or interest.

APPGs cover a diverse range of subjects and are established for a rich variety of purposes. They provide a valuable opportunity for parliamentarians to engage with individuals and organisations outside Parliament who share an interest in the subject matter of their Group. Ellie is a member of many APPGs and an officer of four.

Officer Roles

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Water Pollution aims to promote understanding of the causes of, impacts of and solutions to water pollution, and to facilitate cross-party parliamentary action to tackle water pollution.  Ellie is the Chair of this group.

The purpose of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Europe is to promote informed debate and dialogue among parliamentarians on the UK’s evolving relationship with Europe, including the European Union institutions and its Member States, and to develop constructive recommendations that strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest and benefit.  Ellie is a Vice Chair of this group.

Ellie is also a Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Fair Elections, the purpose of which is to enhance the integrity of UK democracy by: replacing First Past the Post with a proportional electoral system; eliminating dark money and undemocratic influence from politics; countering disinformation in public discourse. The APPG’s goal is to deliver clean and fair elections where all votes count.

The All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group seeks to raise the profile of international human rights issues within Parliament and to investigate and publicise human rights abuses occurring.  Ellie is an Officer of this APPG.

Membership

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Afghan Women and Girls aims to promote the interests and voices of Afghan women and girls within Parliament and to Government.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Adult Social Care aims to be part of the solution for finding a sustainable social care model; build a positive cross-party vision for the future for social care; unlock Parliament to the social care sector, and open the doors of social care to local MPs; be led by lived experience and championed by parliamentarians.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Care-Experienced Children and Young People aims to promote the voice of care-experienced children and young people, in order to promote first-class government policy for children in care and care leavers.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Carers aims to ensure the millions of people in the UK providing unpaid care for family and friends get the support they need. The Group brings together parliamentarians on a cross-party basis to promote awareness, share knowledge, and better understand of the needs of unpaid carers.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Climate Change runs events and activities in parliament with the purpose of advancing understanding of policy issues surrounding climate change and enabling cross-party discussion and action on climate policy.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Diversity and Inclusion in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics aims to promote the inclusion and progression of people from diverse backgrounds in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and to encourage Government, parliamentarians, academics, businesses and others to work towards a STEM sector that is representative of the population.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Environment aims to boost ambition and promote informed debate on climate, nature and resource use in Parliament. The APPG’s activities span three broad themes: natural environment, climate and energy, waste and resources.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Heritage Rail briefs parliamentarians about heritage railways, the contribution they make to their local and regional economies and the skills training opportunities involved.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Homelessness brings together parliamentarians to scrutinise and make recommendations for ending homelessness. Its purpose is to put tackling homelessness at the top of the political agenda and its mission is to help the government deliver an end to all forms of homelessness.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Humanist brings together non-religious MPs and peers to discuss matters of shared interests.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Conservation aims to provide a forum to address wildlife conservation and biodiversity issues affecting our planet including but not limited to ecosystem collapse, species extinctions, land degradation, invasive species, illegal fishing and other threats to the natural world.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases aims to raise the profile of malaria and neglected tropical diseases in Parliament, to champion solutions and tools to prevent, treat, control, and eliminate them, and to strengthen cross-party Parliamentary support for UK leadership, investment, and mobilisation of political will as the world works towards the shared 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Music aims to provide a discussion forum between the music industry, parliamentarians and their constituencies.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Net Zero accelerates policy change, promotes zero carbon solutions, supports clean growth technology, and embeds the UK’s commitment to a net zero carbon economy. It provides a forum for MPs and peers to collectively advocate for urgent government action for a low carbon future in the UK.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Ocean aims to provide a collective space where all parliamentarians can support and promote ocean research and awareness, to develop greater understanding of the ocean and its role in tackling challenges such as climate change, and to debate wider ocean issues.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Political and Media Literacy aims to highlight the importance of political and media literacy education in promoting youth participation in democratic life and cultivating discerning consumers of media resilient to misinformation. Ultimately, we hope all young people will be politically and media literate by the time they finish their secondary education.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Refugees aims to provide a forum for the discussion of issues relating to refugees, both in the UK and abroad, and to promote the welfare of refugees.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Schools, Learning and Assessment aims to promote and support school level education, the quality of learning, assessment and outcomes for all pupils.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social, Cooperative, and Community Economy aims to grow understanding of and support for mission-led businesses including co­operatives, social enterprises, and community businesses.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on United Nations Global Goals aims to support and mobilise parliamentarians of all parties to push for the UK government’s commitments to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, both at home and abroad.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women in Parliament brings together MPs and peers to celebrate progress in women’s representation and advocate for more women in parliament across all parties, aiming for a diverse, gender-equal parliament by 2028 – the centenary of equal franchise. Supports women in parliament and those standing for public office.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Woods and Trees aims to raise awareness of the UK’s woods and trees and to discuss the steps necessary to protect, restore and expand them in a time of climate and nature crises.
